Lightweight Transactions on Networks of Workstations

چکیده
Although transactions have been a valuable abstraction of atomicity persistency and recoverability they have not been widely used in programming environments today mostly because of their high overheads that have been driven by the low performance of magnetic disks A major challenge in transaction based systems is to remove the magnetic disk from the critical path of transaction management In this paper we present PERSEAS a transaction library for main memory databases that decouples the performance of transactions from the magnetic disk speed Our system is based on a layer of reliable main memory that provides fast and recoverable storage of data We have implemented our system as a user level library on top of the Windows NT operating system Our experimental results suggest that PERSEAS achieves performance that is orders of magnitude better than traditional recoverable main memory systems

A Lightweight Intrusion Detection System Based on Specifications to Improve Security in Wireless Sensor Networks
Due to the prevalence of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in the many mission-critical applications such as military areas, security has been considered as one of the essential parameters in Quality of Service (QoS), and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is considered as a fundamental requirement for security in these networks. This paper presents a lightweight Intrusion Detection System to prote...
متن کاملLEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...
متن کاملAn Incentive-Aware Lightweight Secure Data Sharing Scheme for D2D Communication in 5G Cellular Networks
Due to the explosion of smart devices, data traffic over cellular networks has seen an exponential rise in recent years. This increase in mobile data traffic has caused an immediate need for offloading traffic from operators. Device-to-Device(D2D) communication is a promising solution to boost the capacity of cellular networks and alleviate the heavy burden on backhaul links. However, dir...
متن کاملToward Sci-φ: A Lightweight Cloud PaaS for Developing Embarrassingly Parallel Applications Based on Jini
Embarrassingly parallel problems are characterised by a very small amount of information to be exchanged among the parts they are split in, during their parallel execution. As a consequence they do not require sophisticated, low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnection networks but can be efficiently computed in parallel by exploiting commodity hardware. Basically, this means cheap clusters, net...
متن کاملA Simple Secure M-Commerce Protocol SSMCP*
The trend in technology is such that small lightweight lowcomplexity devices, like PDAs, cell-phones, . . .,will become one of the more predominant computing platforms. Consequently, these devices will play an increasing role in e-commerce and mcommerce transactions. In the past, the role of the merchant has been played by workstations/servers, but due to advancements in wireless communications...
